My Food Diary
MyFoodDiary.com is a great place to visit for getting back on track with a positive lifestyle after the holidays. For a monthly subscription and a little bit of time you spend on yourself, you receive many services. On this website you can plan out your meals, look up foods, make reasonable body composition goals, and forum with other people who are health and fitness minded. The forums or discussion groups have many focuses such as 50+ women's group that discuss other topics such as changes in life after 50 and helpful suggestions. Not only do I have a goal to improve my general fitness and health in emotional terms this year, I realize a lot of my running and exercise is due to the feeling of well being I get from it. Not only do I feel better about myself on the outside, I feel better about myself on the inside when I run. My goal however, is improve my sense of well being without so much exercise or feelings of guilt if I miss a day. I realize that my body takes a beating with running and there must be a balanced approach to complete wellness. Perhaps there is a deeper connection with running and it is a metaphor to how I live my life. I realize in the basic sense I run to keep moving, clear my mind and to live a spontaneous and fullfilled life. As Amby Burfoot, winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon wrote in his book, The Runner's Guide to the Meaning of Life, "It's not about speed and gold medals. It's refusing to be stopped. You might find that one particular direction proves difficult, but there are many directions on a compass. Infinite, in fact, as long as you keep searching, you'll find your winning way." Running is also a tradition with me. Burfoot also says, "In a world that perpetually moves faster, never slower, we need all the anchoring points we can find. Chaos erupts spontaneously in our spinning lives. It's the center of the wheel that we need to focus on more often." In short, running for me, grounds me and keeps me in the moment of life that is here and now. It allows me to experience being a bit spontaneous everyday and keeps me mentally and physically healthy and well.
