Washington State Representative Visits

It was an honor to have Washington State Representative, Dawn Morrell visit my classroom today. How this all came to fruition was I simply lucked out and happened to be seated directly next to her at a dinner organized by our local teacher's union, Puyallup Education Association. As the evening progressed and our conversation became more focused on early learning and intervention, I came to the understanding what a genuine person Representative Morrell is and that she truly cares for students in the State of Washington. The next day, I emailed her to thank her for our candid visit and then asked her if she would accept an invitation to my school and classroom. Representative Morrell was quick to accept! Today she spent two hours touring our school, hearing concerns, celebrating accomplishments, and even rolled up her sleeves to help students look up words in their writing dictionaries. I was impressed how she really wanted to know what it feels like to be a teacher, being in one hundred places at once and juggling at least that many activities through the day. She experienced the stresses students in today's world must meet, and I'm sure became better equiped with information on how to point in the direction in order to reach for tomorrow together.
